Hidden amongst the labyrinth of vineyards that produce the
somewhat rustic but workmanlike Cotes du Rhone are those of the village
of Cairanne.
These plump, heavily fruited syrah based wines are made by some of France's
superstars. Legoeuil Richaud and Alary all produce subtle, quality reds
that equal and often surpass those of the New World's best known blockbusters.
